Swim Levels Progression
Octopus (Water Explore)
LEVEL 1/5
This level is a pre-swimming class designed for children aged 6 months and older to experience their first pool environment interaction and swim activities with a parent in the water.
Main Goal:
To be relaxed and comfortable in the water.
Skills to be Achieved:
- Comfortable in the water
- Relax on assisted backfloat
- Comfortable with water poured over the face
- Kicks on tummy with assistance
Jellyfish (Water Familiar)
LEVEL 2/5
The Jellyfish level is for children who are eager to participate, more confident entering the pool, and enjoy playing in the water with a parent. It builds upon the Octopus program with additional skills and movements.
Main Goal:
Introduction to basic water safety skills (Floating, Kicking, Paddling, Breath holding)
Skills to be Achieved:
- Back float with minimal assistance
- Kicks with minimal assistance
- Paddles with assistance
- Gliding underwater (3-5 seconds)
- Assisted twist and turn to parent/wall vice versa (vertical position)
- Assisted monkey walk (use of gutter for safety)
Puffers (Water Safety)
LEVEL 3/5
The Puffers level is for children ready to learn and perform basic water safety skills with minimal assistance from parents or teachers.
Main Goal:
Advance water safety skills.
Skills to be Achieved:
- Jumps in the pool with minimal assistance
- Back float minimal to with least assistance
- Kicks with equipment (kickboard, noodles, etc.) with minimal assistance
- Paddles with equipment (noodles, battery or floaters, etc.) with minimal assistance
- Gliding underwater with distance (5-7 seconds)
- Unassisted twist and turn to parent/wall vice versa (vertical position)
- Unassisted monkey walk (use of gutter for safety)
Penguins (Water Confident)
LEVEL 4/5
The Penguins level is for children eager to participate independently in water activities. It promotes independence in performing water skills with minimal assistance.
Main Goal:
Introduction to survival swim with minimal assistance.
Skills to be Achieved:
- Jumps in pool & Pulls up unassisted
- Independent back float
- Independent kicking with and without equipment
- Independent paddling with and without equipment
- Glides back and forth with distance (7-10 seconds)
- Assisted survival swim
Seals (Water Independent)
LEVEL 5/5
The Seals level is for children who are independent in the water and have confidence. This level prepares children for more advanced swimming skills.
Main Goal:
Independent survival swim.
Skills to be Achieved:
- Dives in pool & Pulls up unassisted
- Performs two kinds of floating (Angel and Starfish)
- Kicks and paddles with distance (with or without equipment use)
- Retrieves toys underwater
- Survival swim with distance
